DepED Division of Tangub City launches its 1st SOBREMESA Reading Camp 2016

The Department of Education, Division of Tangub City launched its 1st SOBREMESA Reading Camp last April 21, 2016 at the Activity Center of Tangub City

This aims to develop our children’s love of reading in the elementary level and to provide a mechanism that is exposing them to various learning opportunities where reading be strengthened through play, fun games, oral interpretation and other enjoyable activities. This academic move that is under the program READ ENJOY and ACQUIRE PRIZES (REAP) is targeting our non-readers read; enable frustration readers comprehend; develop and enhance instructional readers’ comprehension and oral interpretation skills.

As stated in the Division Memorandum No. 64 s, 2016, Guidelines in the Conduct of the 2016 Summer Reading Camp signed by Dr. Victoria V. Gazo, Schools Division Superintendent, this reading pursuit focuses on the development, enhancement of the comprehension skills of our learners and addressing the existing reading problem in our division.

The kick-off activity was graced by Dr. Jennifer Wee Tan, President of Northwestern Mindanao State College and chairman of the Regional Tourism Council, with children Yenny Ann Isabela, Audrey Stacey and Jose Luis Miguel with them also are the twelve foreigner guests coming from France, Finland and Mexico who are friends of Yenny. Another important figures who were present were Hon. Elnora G. Alnguhuro, member of the city council, Mrs Narcisa Naron, Commissioner of the Historical Commission of Tangub City, the Schools Division Superintendent and the Education Program Supervisors.

The hotspots prior to the lead-in activities were requiring children to read a book or passage for them to acquire pass slip necessary for the entry to the play area. Storytelling was rendered first by Cristopher Troniado, host of the opening program followed by Dr. Jenny being continued by her daughter Yenny. Some of the foreigner guests participated in the storytelling activity.

The reading camp activities were scheduled on the following dates: April 21-24; April 29-May 1; May 5-8 and May 12-15, 2016 every 1:00 PM.Reading activities to be undertaken were the following: Tangub Henyo, Pick and Tell, Tongue Twister, Word Formation, Read and Jump, Read-A-Thon, Act My Word, Modified Spelling: Storytelling; etc.Winners in the different reading activities will earn prizes from the management.

Dr. Victoria V. Gazo helmed the event with Mrs. Gina L.  Mandawe LRMDS supervisor and Mrs. Nadura M. Gomez spearheading with the assistance of the Division Reading Volunteers who are the reading facilitators include: Allyn B. Agad, Chenddy Capino, Jelmar H. Ceballos, Reymund Lugagay, Nhovy Mae Torillo, Chervil Hera, Joan Pueblas, Honey Lou Caylan, Irene Vee Paradel and the Library Hub Personnels; Benepie Tapao and Julius Estrella. The local Government of Tangub Spearheaded by Hon. Philip T.Tan,City Mayor  gave their full support to the program.
